Code of Conduct for coaches

  • Coaches will respect the rights, dignity and worth of every athlete and treat everyone equally, regardless of background or ability.
  • Coaches will place the welfare and safety of the athlete above the development of performance.
  • Coaches will develop appropriate working relationships with athletes (especially under 18's) based on mutual truth and respect. They will not exert undue influence to obtain personal benefit or reward.
  • Coaches will encourage and guide athletes to accept and take responsibility for their own behaviour and performance.
  • Coaches will be appropriately qualified and update their licence as and when required by UK Athletics.
  • Coaches will ensure that the activities they guide or advocate are appropriate for the age, maturity, experience and ability of the individual.
  • Coaches will ,at the outset, clarify with athletes (and where appropriate their parents or carers) exactly what is expected of them and what performers are entitled to expect from them.
  • Coaches will co-operate fully with other colleagues (eg other coaches, officials, team managers and sport scientists, doctors , physiotherapists, governing body staff) in the best interests of the athlete.
  • Coaches will consistently promote positive aspects of the sport (eg fair play) and never condone rule violations or the use of prohibited or age-inappropriate substances.
  • Coaches will consistently display high standards of behaviour and appearance.

As part of the England Athletics West Midlands Coach Education programme a series of three Throws Coach Development Days are being held during the winter for Throws Coaches of all levels and abilities.

The objective of the programme is to Learn, Develop and Improve your knowledge from the Master Class & Workshop presenters below and have the opportunity to meet your fellow coaches, with time being allocated for open discussions and feedback

The programme is FREE of charge to all UKA Licence Holders but please bring a pack lunch with you as lunch is not provided

To reserve your place on the West Midlands Regional Throws Coach Development Days please choose the date you wish to attend, complete the Coach Registration form below and return it preferably via email to nrobinson@englandathletics.org

East Midlands Coaching Conference Sunday, October 26 2008

The next East Midlands Coaching Conference is being held on Sunday 16th November at Loughborough University. From the details on the England Athletics website it looks well worth a visit and at only £15 per head including lunch, it's a real bargain.
