| Another Win For Williams |
Friday, May 27 2005 |
Tamworth Ac's Welsh International race walker Mark Williams continued his fine form with another impressive performance to win the 2km Open Track Walk at Birchfield Harriers' Roy Tilling Memorial Meeting at the Alexandra Stadium last Wednesday. The victory took Williams' tally to three wins and a second place from four meetings in just 14 days. Williams won his race comfortably in only 8:31mins after leading from start to finish. This win topped a great week for the Tamworth athlete after he received an invite to represent Staffordshire at the National Inter-Counties Track and Field Championships, and an invitation to compete at this year's French Elite National Championships. French club Nice Cote D'azur Athletisme have also already approached Williams to compete for them again next season after going top of their National League division for the first time in the club's history, with the Tamworth athlete playing a key role.

| Greatest County Champs Medal Haul EVER! |
Wednesday, May 18 2005 |
| Tamworth AC athletes broke a club record when they took the grand total of 51 medals at the various county championships last week-end, the previous record being 36! This fantastic number of medals were won at the County Championships where TAC athletes were entered for the joint Warks/Leics (at Nuneaton) and Staffs (at Stoke) Championships. In all we took a remarkable 51 medals with 36 being the previous record. 21 of this years haul were GOLD! The club is now in the enviable position of having not one but 2 medallists in some individual events showing the improvement in the depth of our performances. For many of the successful athletes it was the first time at the county championships and it will have been excellent experience for their future progression in the sport. Included in the week-ends success - large numbers of PB's were set , more talented and successful athletes are coming through the ranks and javelin thrower Brett Byrd broke the existing Staffs County record when he took 2nd place in his throwing event. Congratulations to everyone who represented the club at the competitions held in Nuneaton for Warks and Leics, Stoke for Staffordshire and to our athletes who are currently attending Bath University. Results will be available soon.

| Williams Claims the Scalps of British Stars |
Friday, May 6 2005 |
Tamworth athletes Mark Williams and Sheila Owen took gold and silver medals respectively at Birchfield Harriers' Annual Open 20km race walking event, held in Sutton Park last weekend. Williams produced another fine performance in the men's 20km event against the likes of British Internationals Steve Hollier and Darrel Stone - both having previously represented England at the Commonwealth Games. Stone, followed by Hollier and then Williams, led the athletes over the first of eight two-and-a-half kilometre circuits around Sutton Park. Williams moved into second place just after the 10km point and then took the lead at 12km. He was then able to ease away from the field and, over the final 5km, he opened a clear lead to win in a time of 1:03.48hrs. In the women's 20km event, Sheila Owen finished in a very good second place in a time of 1:34.18hrs. Owen led the race over the opening 10km but struggled over the closing half of the race to hold the lead. After a spirited finish, she held on to second place over the few final kilometres, a great effort in a rare appearance.
