Star:Track at Tamworth Getting Closer - Free Gift Offer Monday, July 26 2004
The popular summer Norwich Union Star:Track scheme will be running again at Tamworth Athletics Club from Monday, August 16 to Friday, August 20 between 10am-3pm.
Norwich Union star:track is a fun, outdoor summer athletics coaching event for children aged eight-15 and will be taking place at the Marlborough Way Stadium.
The emphasis of the one week event is for children to have fun and to encourage them to take part in and enjoy athletics as a sport in a safe and professional environment
Thousands of children across the UK are expected to take part in similar schemes at over 400 venues nationwide as an introduction to athletics..
The Tamworth AC course will cost £25 for the full week or £6 per day (minimum two days) and includes coaching from qualified coaches, goodie bags, a Norwich Union t-shirt and much more.
A registration form must be completed prior to attendance.
All those who complete a registration form accompanied by a cheque or postal order for £25 (full week) or £12 (2 days)and which arrive with the star:track organiser by Monday 9 August will receive a complimentary Norwich

Young Athletes League Premier Division-Cardiff Monday, July 26 2004
Despite being weakened by injuries and illness, the Tamworth team fought hard throughout the Young Athletes League Premier Division match in Cardiff and did well to finish fourth.
Setting personal bests were Michael Pierpoint (3,000m, 100m hurdles and 1,500m steeplechase), Tom Challis (200m and long jump), Jenny Evans (75m and shot), Amy Williams (150m and high jump), Ashley Smetham (shot and 1,500m), Faye McCabe (shot and discus), Rebecca Finlay (300m hurdles), Daniel Grogan (400m hurdles), Adam Bache (400m hurdles), Nathan Faulks (discus), Laura Castledine (shot), Chris Smith (hammer), Sara Benson (200m), Alex Kavanagh (1500m), Jordan Roach (200m), Michaela Webb (shot), Nicola Tarver (shot), Hannah Sargeant (long jump), Laura Lewis (800m), Adam McGee (800m), Nathan Woodward (80m hurdles), Abi Aubrey (800m), Sophie Cash (200m), Ian Finlay (shot). Athletes equalling their personal bests were Tom Burton (high Jump), Simon King (400m), Daniel Cash (high jump) and Sarah Williams (high jump).

BAL Cup Semi Final Monday, July 26 2004
The Tamworth team found the going tough in the British League Cup semi- final at Derby, finishing sixth out of eight teams.
Top placings on the day were gained by Alana Smetham and Laura Langowski.

Owen Claims Another Title Monday, July 26 2004
Tamworth AC's Sheila Owen was again in impressive form over the weekend at the British Masters 10km Track Championships, held at the Norman Green Stadium, Solihull, taking gold medals in the women's 10km walk.
Owen recorded a new personal best time of 1:00:12mins over the 25-lap event.
It was Owen's third successive personal best performance in competition over the past month, following her previous victories in the British Masters 3km Track Championships, where she had recorded 16:52mins, and in the Midland Area Masters League, held at the Tamworth Stadium last week, where she recorded 11mins exactly over the 2km distance.

All Good Experience At The All England Games Monday, July 26 2004
Tamworth Athletics Club athletes had mixed fortunes at the All England Championships at Gateshead.
Two of the Tamworth athletes reached their finals, which was a fine achievement by Nathan Woodward and Alana Smetham.

Williams Is Walking Back To Fitness Monday, July 26 2004
Tamworth AC athlete Mark Williams capped an already remarkable season by finishing ninth in the final of the men's 5km walk at the National Track and Field Championships in Manchester.
He recorded a season's best time of 23:10:07 as he again produced another strong performance against a field of the country's top race walkers.

You Can Put Your Money On Women's Promotion Monday, July 26 2004
The Tamworth Ladies team made themselves odds on favourites to win their division of the Midlands Women's League when they won the latest meeting at Stourport.
The team now only need to finish in the top four in their final match to claim the title.
Making a welcome return to the team were Laura Langowski and Jenna Lander, who both chalked up three first places each.

Men's Team On Course For Title Monday, July 26 2004
Tamworth Athletic Club's men's team took a step nearer to the Midland Men's League Division Two Championship and promotion to Division One after an excellent team performance gave them second place in the latest match at Brierley Hill by just two points behind winners Cannock and Stafford.
Tamworth's hardest working athlete of the day was Gavin Showell who won the pole vault with 3.80m, the hammer with23.56m and the shot with 9.33m.

Men's B Team Enjoy The Winning Feeling As Well Friday, July 16 2004
Tamworth's men's B team travelled to South Wales to compete in the third Division Five match of the Midland Men's Athletic League campaign.
The team, mostly made up of youngsters, enjoyed a very successful day's athletics as they claimed victory over the first teams of Gloucester, Shrewsbury, Banbury, Harborough, Newark and Sparhill.
The star performer for the second match running was Neil Rudd, who was again unbeaten. He was successful in the 400m A race, 110m hurdles and B 100m, as well as anchoring both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays to victory. Go to Results/Reports page for full report.

Premier Display From Town Athletes Friday, July 16 2004
Tamworth Athletic Club's young stars moved a step nearer to retaining their place in the Premier Division next year with some good performances at Swindon.
The top performance of the day was from javelin thrower Tom Hardman who recorded a throw of 51.60m to win the event and achieve the qualifying standard for the National Championships in August

Club Record for Owen Friday, July 16 2004
Tamworth Athletic Club's race walking duo Sheila Owen and Mark Williams claimed victories at the British Master Track and Field Championships in Birmingham.
Owen produced a season's best performance to take gold in the women's 3km walk. Her time of 16.52mins knocked 18 seconds off her personal best and was a new club record.
Williams made it a double for Tamworth in the walks, taking first place in the 5km event in 23.47mins.

The popular summer Norwich Union Star:Track scheme for 8-15yr olds will be running again at Tamworth Athletic Club from Monday 16 August to Friday 20 August between 10am and 3pm.
The first five completed registration forms accompanied by a cheque or postal order for £25 (full week) or £12 (2 days) will receive a complimentary ticket for the Norwich Union Birmingham International Grand Prix at the Alexander Stadium on Sunday 25 July.

County Call Ups for Tamworth Five Monday, July 12 2004
Five athletes from Tamworth Athletic Club have been selected to represent their respective counties at the All England Schools Championships.
They are Alana Smetham, Sophie Cash, Meghan Beesley, Juan de Leon Padmore and Nathan Woodward.

Success For Culshaws Monday, July 12 2004
Three race walkers and three power walkers made up the Tamworth Anglo-Scots team for the 12 mile Great Scottish Walk in Edinburgh.
Over 3,500 athletes completed the race which was started by the Lord Provost of Edinburgh.
The first three miles was round Arthur's Seat, the hill adjacent to the Scottish capital.
Mark Culshaw was the second male home in two hours.
John Culshaw Junior took part in his longest race to date and finished with a bronze medal while John Culshaw Senior was 24th, taking the bronze medal in the over-55 age group.
Tracey Short, Zoe Walsh and Mark Hodgins helped the team to second in the mixed team category.
With 7,500 competitors taking part this year it is hoped to raise over a million pounds for about 50 plus charities.

National Junior League - TAC Girls Are Now Play Off Favourites Monday, July 12 2004
Tamworth AC Ladies made themselves an odds on favourites to reach the promotion play-offs in August when they gained their third consecutive win to pull clear at the top of the Trent Division of the National Junior League at Stoke.
The men also put up some excellent performances to take second place in their match behind a very strong Stoke side and stay second in the league.
The outstanding performance in the ladies' match came from Alana Smetham who won the Athlete of the Match award when she threw over 40m for the first time in the hammer event.

Midlands Title for Hall Monday, July 12 2004
There was success for Tamworth AC athletes at the Midland Senior Championships at the Alexander Stadium in June.
Simon Hall won the men's 3,000m steeplechase in a superb time of 9:50.73mins.
Laura Langowski was third in her heat of the ladies' 400m in 58.42secs and finished second in the final in 57.35secs.
Phil Clamp was fifth in the final of the men's 1,500m in 4:10.8mins, while Nick Spargo was fifth in his heat of the men's 400m in 53.74secs.

TAC Play Host To Primary Schools Sports Monday, July 12 2004
Over 600 Primary School pupils took part in the District Sports over three days at Tamworth Stadium in June.
The young athletes, supported by hundreds of onlookers, competed in track and field events in three categories.
The Small Schools champions were St Elizabeth's Primary School after a superb performance on Monday.
The next day, Birds Bush Primary School were crowned the Middle Schools champions.
Finally, Dosthill Primary School claimed the Large Schools title on Wednesday.
Tamworth AC looks forward to hosting the Sports again next year.

Summer Star:Track at Tamworth AC Wednesday, July 7 2004
The popular summer Norwich Union Star:Track scheme will be running again at Tamworth AC in August.
This is a one week course, for athletes aged 8-15 years, which covers all athletic disciplines in a fun environment.
The course will start on Monday 16 August and run til Friday 20 August. It will cost £25 for the full week or £6 per day, minimum of 2 days.
The fees include coaching from qualified coaches, goodie bags and other items. More information and registration forms will be available soon.

Williams Continues Comeback - Race Walking Wednesday, July 7 2004
Mark Williams won the Staffordshire and the Midlands 10k road titles in Bedford and has now been invited to compete in the AAA’s Champs in Manchester.
Williams has regained his Welsh National Race Walking 3k title and been called up to the Midlands squad for the Inter-Area match at Loughborough in July.

A 55 STRONG Tamworth team produced a good performance at the Heart of England League meeting in Banbury in June. Many of the younger athletes were making their first appearances of the season but the squad still recorded 44 personal bests on the day.

Women's Team Claim Victory at National Junior League - May Wednesday, July 7 2004
The Tamworth women's team claimed victory at the second match in the National Junior Athletic League, Trent Division, while the men came a creditable third from the eight teams competing.
The women won with 243 points from Derby AC 239, Leicester Coritanian 160, Cannock and Staffs 157, Rugby and Northampton 110, Coventry Godiva 107 and Peterborough 74.

The men's match was won by City of Stoke AC with 317 points, from Cannock and Staffs with 250. Tamworth were a close third with 236, from Derby AC 232, Coventry Godiva 159, Rugby & Northampton 126, Leicester Coritanian 114 and Peterborough 89.

Starring for the girls was Jenna Lander who won athlete of the match for a tremendous personal best hammer throw of 46.49cm.
Alana Smetham also threw a grade one 38.51m to take the B event. These two girls were more than 10m clear of any other competitor.

NEWS FLASH
Rob Tanner, Sports Editor of the Tamworth Herald, and fellow reporter Michael Beardmore intend to compete against each other over 200m at Tamworth AC tomorrow, Tuesday 6 July. They will arrive at the club between 7.30 and 8pm. A photographer will be there to record the event.
Be there to cheer them on and don't forget to wear your club vest!
