| Summer Star:track Success |
Wednesday, September 8 2004 |
The 2004 Star:track scheme sponsored by Norwich Union and Reebok and run by Tamworth AC at the Town Stadium , proved to be the most successful to date with the number of 8 to 15 year olds attending more than doubling from 2003. The five day structured and exciting programme of track and field activities gave every young athlete of all abilities the opportunity to develop and hone their skills in a fun environment. Included in this years programme were visits from Megan Beesley, one of the club’s most talented and promising young athletes who led a warm up session and answered questions about athletics and a days joint competition with the thirty eight strong Lichfield Star:track group. Tamworth’s Norwich Union Star:track scheme organiser Chris Graves said “ It was a brilliant action packed week made possible by all the hard work and excellent organisation by the coaches and club volunteers and the enthusiasm of the young athletes . Who knows, one of them could be the next Kelly Holmes or Mark Lewis-Francis and win gold in the 2012 Olympics. Without a doubt the Star:track scheme will be back next year!” For those who liked or were unable to attend the Norwich Union Star:track there is still time for you to join Tamworth AC’s Summer ‘Reception’ group which runs until the end of September . Contact the Club Secretary on 287177 or tamworthac@aol.com.

| Another Successful Tamworth Games |
Wednesday, September 8 2004 |
The cool and windy weather did not deter the large crowd of over 1,000 spectators who were treated to a full day of action packed athletics at Tamworth Athletic Club’s highly successful Seventh Annual Tamworth Games Over 600 athletes from all over the Midlands and further afield competed in the biggest open meeting held in England at the end of August. Each year competitors are attracted to the event by the photo finish and electronic measurement facilities and by the excellent organisation – all done by volunteers! This year the club was honoured by the attendance of a number of special guests, led by the Mayor of Tamworth Clr Ken Gant and Mayoress Clr Maureen Gant, who presented medals and prizes to the winners in each event. Presentations were also made by the President of Tamworth Rotary Club George Glossop and Mrs Glossop, Geoff Beales of Sporting Club Tamworth , Rob Tanner Sports Editor at the Tamworth Herald and Martin Summers from Tamworth AC's own Website. Also new for this year was the provision of sports massage by five student sports therapists from Sutton Coldfield College. Here’s hoping another group of students will be keen to use their skills to complete their college course next year. A huge thank you must go to everyone who was involved in the organisation of the day. Without all you wonderful people the club could not possibly put on such an excellent event year after year. Don’t forget to put December 3 in your diary which is the date for the next Volunteers party.
