Reception
squads currently running at the club:
Starter ‘Reception’ Squads May to September 2005
Due to the huge success of Tamworth AC’s
starter ‘Reception’ group in 2004 the club is pleased
to announce that the squads will run again this year with
the addition of an extra weekly session and will include an
extended age range.
Several of the 85+ athletes who attended
last year have already joined the club and made an impact
on the athletic scene.
They include Craig Farrell, who is the first
Tamworth AC athlete to be ranked in the British Reebok Cross
Country Rankings in 10th position, Rose Williams winner of
the club’s Pickering’s Athlete of the Month award
for November 2004 and James Thacker, an Under11, who with
a number of others, is one to watch for the future!
Tamworth Athletic Club’s starter ‘Reception’
squads, sponsored by the club and Active Sports, will run
every Tuesday and Thursday at the Town Stadium, Marlborough
Way, starting on Thursday May 5 and continuing throughout
the summer .
Young athletes, between the ages of 8 and
15, will be welcome to attend the coaching sessions in the
stadium from 5.30 to 6.30 pm each Tuesday and Thursday evening.
The athletic sessions are designed for boys
and girls who have been introduced to the basic athletic skills
of running, jumping and throwing. The sessions will provide
young athletes with a structured programme that will meet
their needs whatever their sporting ability in a FUN environment.
Events covered will include:
Sprints, Middle Distance, Endurance , Javelin,
Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Putt, Hurdles, Triple Jump, Starts/Relays,
Race Walking and more.
This is an ideal opportunity for boys and
girls to try out a range of disciplines under the guidance
of Tamworth’s own Level 4 Midlands Multi-event coach,
coaching co-ordinator Andy Day and a team of coaching assistants
from Tamworth AC.
All new athletes who join the ‘Reception’
squads will be entitled to two free sessions after which each
session will cost £3 for non-members and £1.50
for those who join as a club member.
Induction sessions will continue to run as usual on Tuesdays
and Thursdays at 7pm in the clubhouse. For health and safety
reasons it is essential that all new athletes attend one of
these sessions with Ray, the club’s Induction Officer.
All junior athletes must be accompanied by a parent or carer.
