British Universities Championships, Gateshead Tuesday, April 27 2004
Jenna Lander gained fifth place in the hammer with her best throw of the season to date of 44.58m. She also finished in ninth place in the discus with a throw of 22.23m and took 13th place in the shot with 8.18m.

Amy Frith finished fourth in her heat of the 800m in a personal best time of 2:19.64mins to reach the semi -finals, where she finished seventh in 2:21.05mins.

Laura Langowski took second place in her heat of the 400m in 57.03secs and took fourth place in her semi-final in 57.81secs. She then went on to take seventh place in the final in 57.03secs.

To complete a busy weekend, Laura and Amy provided half of the Bath University team in the 4x400m relay team that finished in the silver medal position in 3:50.5mins.

Midland Open Meeting - Tamworth Tuesday, April 27 2004
Richard Brown won the under-17 men's 100m in 12secs with David Lines equalling his personal best of 12.2secs for first place in the under-20 event.

Daniel Challis won the under-15 boys 100m in 12.7secs with Nicholas Crawford second in 13secs, Ian Findlay fourth in 13.8secs and Tom Challis (under-13) fifth in 13.8secs.

Justine Passey took second place in the under-17 ladies 100m in 13.9secs, with Rebecca Findlay third in 14.5secs, Sarah Williams fourth in 14.5secs and Katherine Snowden fifth in 14.9 secs. Katherine won the under-17 women's 400m in 1:05.3mins with Sarah Williams second in 1:09.3mins.

Kirk Allen clocked 58.1secs for first place in the 400m with Ian Findlay in the same position in the under-15 boys 400m in 1:04.4mins. Megan Jacobs won the under-15 girls' 1500m in 5:26.3mins with Jenna Passey in second place in 6:40.3mins.

In the 1500m events, Howard Bush finished in second place in the seniors in 4:46.4mins , Martyn Naughton won the under-20 men's in 4:23.1mins, Tom Adams took third place in the under-17 men's event in 4:45mins and Matthew Wood was second in the under-15 boys event in 5:40.4mins.

In the hammer events, Brian Sumner won the veteran men's with a throw of 39.18m, Jenna Lander won the under-20 women's with 43.37m and Alana Smetham was second with a throw of 38.38m. Reannne Wood, in her first competition, won the under-17 women's hammer with 17.41m, Alex Berrow won the under-17 men's event with a personal best 38.43m and Ashley Smetham won the under-15 boys event with a personal best throw of 26.72m.

Sarah Williams won the under-17 ladies long jump with 4.46m with Rebecca Findlay in second place with 4.15m.

Tom Hardman won the under-17 men's javelin with a throw of 38.51m. Mark Brooks took second place in the under-15 boys javelin with a throw of 25.98m with Daniel Challis in third place with 17.12m.

Brian Sumner won the veterans shot with 9.19m with Alex Berrow taking the under-17 men's event with a personal best 10.01m. Ian Findlay took second place in the under-15 boys shot with 8.56m.

Sarah Williams chalked up excellent points when she won the senior triple jump with 9.89m, the Senior B pole vault with a clearance of 2.10m and took second place in the under-17 women's long jump with 4.58m.

Laura Taylor produced three personal best performances in the under-15 age group when she won the 75m hurdles in 13.2secs, took second place in the long jump with 4.52m and third in the 1`00m in 13.8secs.

Justine Passey continued to show her vastly improved form with two more personal bests for second place in the 100m in 13secs and third in the 200m in 26.9secs.

Alana Smethan produced her usual top performance in the hammer to win with a throw of 37.01m and took fourth place in the B javelin.

Sophie Cash won the B under-15 75m hurdles in a personal best 13.4secs and took second place in the high jump with a clearance of 1.40m.

Rebecca Furber won the under-17 javelin with another good throw of 33.47m and Claire Perry won the B event with a personal best throw of 19.11m.

Rebecca Findlay won the B senior high jump with a clearance of 1.40m and took second place in the under-17s B 80m hurdles in17.1secs.

Lara Hooper won the B senior triple jump with a leap of 9.34m, took third place in the pole vault with a personal best clearance of 2.30m and fourth in the senior 3,000m in a personal best time of 13:15.01mins.

Danielle Allen won the senior high jump with a clearance of 1.45m, took third place in the under-17 ladies 80m hurdles in 16.6secs and the same position in the B long jump with 3.95m.

Leah Moores and Gemma Wheelhouse also produced good performances in the senior section. Leah took second place in the 800m in a personal best time of 2:23.4mins and the same position in the 400m in 63.9secs.

Gemma took second place in the shot with a personal best of 8.89m and third in the discus with a throw of 25.85m.

Claire Free and Charlotte Elvins also produced good performances. Claire took second place in the under-17 ladies 300ms in a personal best 45.9secs and Charlotte took third place in the under 15 girls 800m in a personal best time of 2:33.9mins .

Katherine Snowden took second place in the 400m hurdles in a personal best 1:15.7mins, third in the 3000m in 13:29.3mins and fifth in the 1500m in 5:48.5mins.

Rebecca Hallam won the B 800m in 2:44.7mins and took second place in the B 400m hurdles in 88.5secs.

Megan Jacobs gained a useful time in the 800 metres when she took third place in 2:31.4mins, took fourth place in the long jump with 3.48m and fifth spot in the 200m in 31.2secs.

Sara Benson set a good personal best time of 45.4secs for third place in the 300m, finished in second place in the senior long jump with 4.63m and fourth in the 100m in 13.9secs.

Zoe Albini took third place in her 100m in a personal best 13.7secs and fourth in the 200m in 28.1secs.

Laura Day finished in third place in the under-15s shot with 6.64m and fourth in the discus with a throw of 12.68m.

Kerry Whitehouse took second place in her 400m in 1.07mins, another second in the long jump with 3.82m and fourth in the 100m in a personal best 14.4secs.

Abi Aubrey gained third place in the 1500m in 5:49.6mins and fourth in the 800m in 2:40.9mins.

Sheila Owen and Alison Showell picked up useful points in the senior throwing events. Sheila took third place in the hammer with a throw of 17.16m and fifth in the javelin with 18.29m. Allison took fourth place in the discus with a throw of 14.53m and fifth in the shot with 5.55m.

Danielle Webb took second place in the under-15 girls shot with a personal best 5.68m metres and fifth 1,500 metres in another personal best of 5:59.3mins.

Joanne Snowden was third in the B 1,500m in 6:11.8mins.

Rachael Perry finished in fifth spot in the 100m in a personal best 14.9secs and sixth in the 200m in 31.6secs.

Rebecca Edwards took fifth place in the under-15 discus and second in the non-scoring 800m in 3:16.2mins.

Tamworth winners in the non-scoring events were Jenna Passey and Nicky Williams. Jenna won the 800m in 3:04.3mins and Nicky won the 200m in 33.9secs.

London Marathon 2004 Tuesday, April 27 2004
This year’s London Marathon and Mini Marathon saw both senior and junior Tamworth AC athletes donning their running shoes and taking part in this awe inspiring event.
In the M40 age group Mark Trigger, who had run in the Paris Marathon the previous week, came home in a time of 3:43:46 and seasoned athlete Ian Rutherford finished in a time of 3:45:31 overtaking a virtual safari park full of rhinos and elephants .
Kevin Wood, who chose to run for the Alzheimer’s Society, finished the course in 4:06:06 in the M50 group and club mate Trevor Stevenson ran in the M60 event in a time of 5:49:28. Trevor’s running partner, Julie Oldfield, finished in 5:49:27.
Megan Jacobs was chosen to represent Staffordshire in the County Challenge
for girls of 13-14 years in the Mini Marathon event for junior athletes. Megan took a very creditable 66th place and her time was 00:17:57

National Junior League April '04 Tuesday, April 27 2004
Tamworth AC athletes produced some outstanding individual performances in their opening National Junior League matches, gaining a total of 21 personal bests overall.
The ladies team also won their match with a solid all round team performance.

As usual the ladies produced the goods in the throwing events with Rebecca Furber winning the javelin with a personal best 33.78m.

Alana Smetham set another personal best to win the B hammer with a throw of 39.18m with Jenna Lander winning the A hammer with a throw of 41.61m. Jenna also took fourth place in the shot with 8.27m.

Providing excellent back up in the throws were Claire Perry and Gemma Wheelhouse.

Claire took second place in the B discus with a personal best throw of 18.57m and set another personal best for third place in the javelin with 19.58m.

Gemma finished in second place in the A discus with a throw of 25.98m and third spot in the shot with 8.05m.

Abi Aubury picked up good points for the team with first place in the B 3000m in time of 13:24.5mins.

Rebecca Findlay, who recently moved up an age group, produced two good team performances to take second place in the A high jump with a clearance of 1.50m, and the same position in the 100m hurdles in 22.7secs.

Sarah Williams took second place in the A pole vault with a clearance of 2.10m, third place in the triple jump with 10.04m and fourth place in the long jump with a personal best leap of 4.60m.

Lara Hooper gained second place in the B pole vault with a clearance of 2.10m, another second place in the triple jump with a personal best 9.67m and third place in the 3000m in a time of 13:13.0mins.

Justine Passey produced two good performances in the sprints to take third place in the 200m in a personal best 27.2secs and the same position in the 100m in 13.2secs.

Danielle Allen took second place in the high jump with a personal best clearance of 1.50m, and fifth spot in the 100m hurdles in 20.7secs.

Amy Frith had a very busy afternoon completing four events. She took tird place in the 400m in 1:1.0mins, another third in the 800m in 2:22.6mins and fifth in the 200m in 28secs.

Leah Moores picked up good points for the team with a second and a fourth place with Katherine Snowden doing the same.

Leah took second place in the 800m in a time of 2:24.9mins and fourth in the 1500m in 5:34.6mins.

Katherine finished in second place in the B 1500m in 5:42.8mins and fourth in the A 400m hurdles in a personal best time of 1:16.0mins.

Sarah Benson took third place in the B long jump with a leap of 4.10m and fifth place in the 100m in 13.9secs.

Rebecca Hallam picked up a second place in the 400m hurdles B event in 1:21.3mins, and sixth place in the 400m in 1:7.8mins.

A measure of the all round team performance was that every athlete in the Tamworth team gained at least one place in the first three in their events.

Meanwhile, in a very tough men's match, Tamworth produced a very solid team performance to take second place overall to City of Stoke, who were members of he Premier Division last season.

Tamworth recorded two first places in this match with plenty of second and third places to ensure a good overall points score.

Adam Smith recorded the only individual win in the men's high jump B with 1.60m and third place in the A triple jump with a personal best 12.52m, Adam's high jump also equalling his personal best.

His team-mate for these events was youngster Daniel Cash, who was making his debut in this league. Daniel recorded a clearance of 1.70m in the high jump for a personal best and third place and 10.90m for another personal best and
fourth place.

The Tamworth 4x400m relay team of Mark Humphries, Chris Smith, Neil Rudd and David Lines recorded a fine win in a fast 3:31.0mins.

Tom Hardman recorded an excellent personal best throw of 41.92m in the javelin and Chris Smith a fast 51.4secs in the 400m to gain second places.

David Lines gained second place in the A 400m hurdles in 1:3.2mins, and third spot in the A 100m hurdles in 19.1secs.

Neil Rdd clocked a personal best 53.2secs for second place in his 400m event, and 2:10.4mins for fourth place and another personal best in the 800m.

Richard Bown took second place in the B long jump with 5.86m and fifth in the 100m in 11.9secs.

Ricky Hallam had a busy afternoon with second place in the B 400m hurdles in 1:6.6mins, third place in the pole vault with 2.35m and another third spot in the 110m hurdles in 19.8secs.

Mark Humphries finished in second place in the 200m in 23.8secs and seventh in the 100m in 12secs. Michael Pierpont gained two third places with a personal best 17.77m in the javelin and a time of 11:32.0mins in the 3000m.

David Levett took third place in the B hammer with a throw of 28.14m and fourth in the B shot with 8.64m. Alex Berrow can be pleased with his efforts in the same events moving up two age groups from last season to record a
personal best of 32.20m in the hammer and another personal best of 9.04m with these heavier weights.

Martyn Naughton took fifth place i the 3000m in 9:26.0mins and John Jenkins sixth spot in the 800m in 2:5.4mins. Both these A events being fast races.

Chris Mawbey took fifth place in the A long jump with a jump of 5.91m and sixth in the 200m in 23.7secs. Stephen Tonks and Adam Bache also picking up good points for the team in the 1500m event.

Guernsey Open Meeting Tuesday, April 27 2004
At the Guernsey Open Meeting, Laura Langowski and Amy Frith both recorded good performances to win their events.
Amy won the junior ladies 800m in 2:20.04mins, her best time for over a year, and Laura won the senior ladies 400m in 57.9secs and took second place in the 200m in 26.2secs

At the Dudley and Stourbridge Open Meeting, Paul Tasker won the senior men's 300m event in this meeting in a time of 38.8secs and took second place in the 600m in 1:26.9min.

At the Bromsgrove and Redditch Open Meeting, Tom Hardman recorded a fine throw in the under-17 men's javelin with a personal best 45.29m.

Nathan Faulkes took first place in the under-15 boys' discus with a throw of 23.82m and finished in second place in the javelin event with 29.68m, with Mark Brookes in third place in the same event with a throw of 28.13m.

Phil Owen won two of the veterans events when he won the javelin with a throw of 37.94m and the discus with 31.74m.

Phil's wife Sheila won the veteran ladies two mile walk with a time of 18:32mins, and daughter Hannah, in her first ever competition, picked up two medals for second places in the 80m in 14secs and 600m in 2:26.6mins.

At the Tipton Games, Langowski and Sarah Williams recorded first places.
Langowski won the senior ladies 400m in a time of 58.3secs and took third place in the 100m in 13.2secs. Sarah won the under-17 ladies triple jump with a leap of 9.99m.
Justine Passey picked up a medal in the under-17 ladies 100m when she took second place overall with a time of 13.5secs.
Tom Burton, in his first 100m hurdles race in the under-17 men's age group, took third place in a time of 18.3secs.
Tasker picked up a medal for third place in the senior men's 400m and Nathan Faulks gained a 'silver' medal for second place in the under-15 boys javelin with a throw of 30.02m.
Katherine Snowden put up a good performance to record a personal best time of 2:31.7mins for fourth place in the under-17 ladies 800m.
Kirk Allen gained two fifth places in the senior men's events, clocking 25.6secs for the 200m and 55secs for the 400m.
Claire Perry took seventh place in the under-17 women's shot with 6.62m and Mark Humphries moved up to the tough under-20 mens age group to take overall ninth place in the 100m in 12.1secs.
Laura Lewis finished in sixth place in the under-13 girls 1500m in a time of 6:13.1mins. Several Tamworth girls took part in the under-11 age group and all of them did well.
Francesca Hughes picked up three medals, taking third place in the 75m in a personal best of 12.3secs, the same position in the 150m in another personal best of 25.40secs and second place in the cricket ball throw with a throw of 11m.
Sophie Fairfax-Steadman finished in fourth place in the 150m in a personal best 26secs and eighth in the 75m in 12.8secs.
Leanne Lewis finished in seventh spot in the 800m in 3:16-0mins and tenth in the 75m in a time of 13.1secs.
Chloe and Lauren Saunders both did well in their first ever competition with Chloe sixth in the 75m in 12.5secs and Lauren ninth in the same event in 12.9secs.
