TAC Off to Flying Start in NJL Saturday, April 29 2006
Tamworth AC have made am incredible start to their first season in the Premiership Division of the National Junior League.
  They finished second in the first meeting of the Midland Premier League at the Alexander Stadium behind host club Birchfield Harriers and ahead of such prominent clubs as Nottingham AC, Bristol and West, Cardiff, Tipton, Mansfield AC and Norwich AC. The majority of these clubs were in the National Premier League last year before it was divided into regions.
  It is the best result the club has recorded in its 32-year history.

There are three meetings remaining in the competition, one of which will be held at Tamworth AC's Stadium off Marlborough Way.The top two teams will then go forward to the National Finals.
  Getting Tamworth off to a great start were Nathan Woodward and Meghan Beesley.
  Woodward won the 400m hurdles in 56secs and finished fourth in the 110m hurdles in a personal best time of 15.8secs.
  Beesley won the ladies' 400m hurdles in 65secs and was fourth in the 200m in 26.5secs.
  Giving the winners strong support was Tom Burton who was runner-up in the 110m hurdles B race in 16.6secs and in the high jump with a PB clearance of 1.65m.He was also fourth in the 400m hurdles in another PB of 63.6secs.
  Liz Checkley recorded three PBs in a busy afternoon when she finished second in the pole vault with 2m, fifth in the 200m in 27.2secs, the same position in the 400m in 60.9secs and then teamed up with Hollie Owen, Kathy Snowden and Claire Free to finish third in the 4x400m relay in 4:12.9mins.
  Picking up good points in the A throwing events was Alex Berrow who was third in the hammer with a throw of 41.77m, fifth in the shot with 10.59m and sixth in the discus with a throw of 28.83m.
  He received good support from David Levett in the B throws. He won his discus with a throw of 26.52m, finished second in the hammer with 32.58m and third in the shot with 9.24m.
  In the men's javelin, Tom Hardman recorded a throw of 44.77m for third place with youngster Chris Smith marking his league debut with a throw of 33.34m for second place.
Not to be outdone, the ladies also picked up good points in the throwing events.
  Gemma Wheelhouse was third in the discus with a PB throw of 29.87m, fourth in the shot with another PB of 9.30m and fifth in the hammer with a throw of 22.85m.
  Reanne Wood picked up a good third place in her hammer event with a throw of 20.76m and Claire Perry was sixth in the A javelin with a throw of 23.17m.
  Another youngster making her debut was Faye McCabe who finished third in the shot with 7.49m, third in the javelin with a throw of 21.68m and fifth in the discus with a throw of 17.89m.
  Yet another athlete making her league debut was Laura Taylor who finished second in the long jump with a leap of 4.49m, the same position in the high jump with a clearance of 1.30m and sixth in the 100m in 13.7secs.
  Charlotte McDonough produced a good performance in the ladies' triple jump with a PB jump of 9.73m, which was good enough for third place.
  Producing three outstanding individual performances was Daniel Cash who finished fourth with a PB clearance of 1.80m in the high jump, the same position in the 200m in another PB of 23.1secs and fifth in the 400m with yet another PB of 51.9secs.
  Simon King set a PB of 4:18.2mins for sixth place in the 1,500m.Debutant Ben Horsley was fifth in the 400m in 58.7secs.
  Tom Adams was fourth e in the A steeplechase in 6:32.7mins and fifth in the 3,000m in a PB of 9:25.8mins.
  Martyn Naunton gave Adams good support by finishing second in the B 3,000m in 9:34.5mins and the same position in the steeplechase in 6:37.1mins.
  Stephen Tonks was third in the triple jump with a leap of 12.33m and finished eighth in the long jump with 5.33m.
  Nick Crawford was fourth in the triple jump with 10.74m, fifth in the 200m in 24.5secs and in 12.2secs.
  The busiest Tamworth athlete of the day was Sarah Williams who was third in the 3,000m in 15:31.5mins and finished fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.30m, the long jump with a leap of 4.74m and the pole vault.
  Marianne Pritchard was also fourth in the 3,000m in 12:55.7mins and Faye Palmer finished fifth in the 400m hurdles in 78.7secs.
  Snowden and Free also played a valuable part for the ladies team.Snowden finished fourth in the 800m in 2:28.1mins and the 1,500m steeplechase in 6:09.4mins. She was also sixth in the 100m hurdles in 20.3secs.
  Free set a PB jump of 9.16m for third in the triple jump, finished sixth in the 400m in 66.4secs and seventh in the 100m in 14secs.
  Mike Pierpoint finished fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 2.75m and seventh in the 1,500m in 5:8.5mina.
  John Jenkins was sixth e in the long jump with a leap of 4.83m and seventh in the 800m in a time of 2:06.9mins.
  Charles Parker finished sixth in the 100m in 12.5secx with Stephen Harris finishing in the same position in the 800m in a PB time of 2:17.4mins.
  Three other athletes who made their league debuts were Joanna Snowden, Claire Hedderman and Alyson Bird, and they all finished sixth in their respective events.
  Snowden clocked 2:53.7mins in the 800m and Hedderman and Bird finished 6:41.1mins and 6:53.8mins respectively in the 1,500m.
