| Twenty Nine Tamworth athletes opened their track and field season at a good quality Tipton games last weekend, writes Mick Sanderson.
There were some fine performances with 17 of the athletes picking up medals and 15 personal bests recorded on the day.
Top performance of the day was recorded by Jordan Roach, who cleared 1.75m to win the under-15 boys' high jump.
Roach also picked up a medal in the 80m hurdles, when he finished in second place in a personal best time of 14.2secs.
Also with an impressive performance was Adam Smith who finished in second place in the senior men's triple jump, with a new club record jump of 13.68m.
Robert Stroud continued his good form from the winter, when he won the long jump with a personal best jump of 4.05m, the 600m in a time of 2:00.8mins and took overall fifth place in the 75m in 11.2secs.
Mark Williams produced his usual first place when he won the senior men's 2km walk in a time of 8:36.7mins.
Also showing good form in the younger age groups were Eloise Redfern and ChloeWilliams.
Redfern took second place in the 800m in a personal best time of 2:46.3mins and fourth in the long jump with a jump of 3.87m.
Williams took second place in her long jump with a jump of 3.60m, another second in her 150m race in 23.9secs and sixth overall in the 75m in 11.90secs. Her performances in the 75m and long jump were both personal bests.
Stephen Parkes and Matty Wood both ran the 3,000m for the first time and picked up medals for second places. Parkes recorded a time of 9:55.5mins, and Wood, in his first race in the under-17 age group, in a time of 10:21.1mins.
Anthony Parkes also picked up a medal with second place in the 800m in a personal best 2:27.6mins and Oliver Wood took third place in the 1,500m and sixth in the 100m event.
Francesca Hughes also produced some good performances with second place in the 75m in a personal best 10.8secs, another second in her 150m in 21.9secs and third in her 70m hurdles in 13.3secs.
Showing good early season form in the under-15 girls' sprint events are Milly Kellyman and Sophie Taylor.
Kellyman won her race in the 100m in a personal best time of 13.2secs and took second place in her 200m event, with Taylor also taking second place in her 200m.
Danielle Norton also took part in the under-15 girls' 100m after moving up an age group, to take fifth place in 14.6secs.
Hollie Owen took third spot in the under-20 women's 200m and Chris Georgiou set a personal best of 12.5secs for his senior men's 100m.
In the pole vault events, Ricky Hallam took second place in the senior men's event with a clearance of 3.70m and Sarah Williams third in the under-20 women's event with 2.70m.
Dave Williams took fourth place in his 3,000m and Charlotte Weston recorded a good long jump of 3.55m, with Amy Williams seventh in the 300m in a personal best of 50.5secs.
In the under-17 men's javelin event, Chris Smith took third place with a throw of 36.55m with Liam Wheeler in his first competition in a new age group just behind him in fourth place with a throw of 34.28m.
Don Smith also picked up a medal for second place in his age group with a throw of 23.94m.
Samantha Lawton picked up a medal for third place in the shot with 5.53m, took sixth place in the high jump with 1.10m and finished in sixth place in her 150m in a personal best 24.7secs.
Jessica Hirst equalled her personal best of 23.8secs for second place in her 150m, took third spot in her 75m in 11.8secs and sixth in the 600m in 2:15.3mins.
Jasmine Oliver set a personal best of 3:02.8mins in her 800m, finished in fifth place in the 75m in 11.6secs and jumped 2.96m in the long jump.
Rebecca Bradford took sixth place in the 800m in 2:58.6mins and set a personal best in the long jump with a jump of 3.20m.
Georgia Oliver, in her first meeting, finished in tenth place in the 600m in 2:44.6mins, recorded a time of 13.6secs for the 75m and jumped 2.45m in the long jump.
Elliott Jones finished in fifth place in his 100m and also took part in the shot.

| Tamworth's young athletes put up some good performances in the final match of the Sportshall season to keep third place in the final overall standings.
With this being the last meeting of the season, medals were also awarded to the best performers over the campaign with the Tamworth under-11s group of athletes picking up a total of 16 between them.
Robert Stroud picked up no less than five medals, Keir Hatton four, James Baccus three, Kane Densley two and Eloise Redfern two.
In this final match, Stroud won the standing triple jump with a leap of 6m, with Hatton in fourth place in the same event with 5.27m. Densley won the speed bounce and took fourth place in the long jump with 1.83m.
Baccus won the vertical jump and made it a double when he also won the chest push event.
Newcomer Max Leaver finished in third place in the one-lap race in 14.0secs.
Elliott Jones finished in third place in the long jump with an effort of 1.84m, fourth in the speed bounce and fourth in the chest push, with Reice Bruton ninth in the vertical jump event.
In the relay events, Stroud and Hatton won the 2x1 lap race in 26.7secs and also won the six-lap parlauf in 84.0secs.
Hatton, Baccus, Densley and Stroud won the circuit relay in 1:25.4mins.
Densley and Leaver finished third in their 2x2 lap race in 56.8secs with Reice Bruton and Harrison Mayou taking second place in their race in 63.2secs. Jones, Leaver, Mayou and Ryan Christian took third place in the 4x1 lap relay in 56.2secs.
For the under-11 girls, Redfern won the vertical jump event and took second place in the triple jump with a leap of 6.22m.
Samantha Lawton finished in second place in the chest push and sixth in the speed bounce.
Chloe Williams finished third in the one-lap race in 14.5secs, with Jessica Hurst fourth in the long jump with a leap of 1.83m and fifth in the vertical jump.
Georgina Cresswell finished fifth in the long jump with an effort of 1.48m, with Bethan Roach sixth in the chest push.
Olivia Woodward took sixth place in the triple jump with a leap of 4.26m and Rosanne Childs was seventh in the speed bounce.
Redfern and Hurst won the 2x2 lap relay in 55.0secs, with Olivia Woodward and Georgina Steggles third in the same event in 62.1secs.
Childs and Williams finished in third place in the six-lap parlauf in 1:32.5mins.
Sarah Turner and Samantha Lawton took third position in the 2x1 lap event in 28.8secs, with Roach, Woodward, Steggles and Turner occupying the same position in the circuit relay in 1:42.3mins.
Completing the under-11 girls events were Turner, Cresswell, Williams and Roach with yet another third place in the 4x1 lap relay in 60.0secs.
In the under-15 boys group, Adam McGee took second place in the two-lap race in 25.2secs, seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 6.06m, eighth in the speed bounce event and 11th in the long jump with an effort of 1.68m.
Luke Roughley finished in second place in the four-lap race in 51.6secs, eighth in the shot with 6.71m and ninth in the long jump with an effort of 2.06m.
Jordan Roach took third place in the four-lap race in 70.2secs, sixth in the shot with 7.22m and sixth in the long jump with a leap of 2.28m.
David Hudson finished in third place in the two-lap race in 26.6secs, fourth in the speed bounce and ninth in the triple jump with a leap of 5.66m.
Newcomer Adrian Miller gained a good third place in his two-lap race in 26.8secs and 11th in the speed bounce.
Roughley and Matthew Browne took second place in the eight-lap parlauf with Roach, McGee, Hudson and Miller third in the 4x2 lap relay.
In the overall individual standings for the season, Jordan Roach finished in seventh place out of 35 competitors, Adam McGee 12th and David Hudson 13th.
In the under-15 girls events, Sophie Taylor took second place in the four-lap race in 56.9secs, fifth in the shot with 7.24m and fifth in the vertical jump.
Milly Kellyman finished in second place in the two-lap race in 26.2secs, third in the vertical jump and sixth in the shot with 7.02m.
Hannah Sargeant took second place in her four-lap race in 58.4secs, third in the speed bounce and fourth in the long jump with a leap of 2m.
Beth Scattergood finished in second place in her two-lap race in 27.3secs, ninth in the speed bounce and tenth in the long jump with a great effort of 1.56m.
Lauren Whitehouse finished in third place in the two lap race in 28.0secs, sixth in the long jump with a leap of 1.96m and seventh in the speed bounce event.
Maddie Brown took third place in her four-lap race in 62.3secs, eighth in the vertical jump and tenth in the shot with 5.56m. In the 4x2 lap relay, Whitehouse, Brown, Sargeant and Scattergood finished in second place, with Taylor and Kellyman third in the eight-lap parlauf in the best time of the season.
In the overall individual standings for the season, out of 30 competitors, Taylor finished in sixth place, Kellyman ninth, Sargeant 12th, Scattergood 13th and Brown 14th.
In the under-13s boys group, Matthew Browne took third place in the four-lap race in 55.9secs, fourth in the vertical jump and second in the six-lap race in 90.3secs.
Curtis Cresswell finished fifth in the two-lap race in 27.4secs with James Thacker sixth in the triple jump with 5.32m.
Charlie Mayou took fifth place in the long jump with a leap of 1.88m, with Richard Mahoney seventh in the shot with 5.18m.
Jake Notman finished in seventh place in the vertical jump event as did Sam Greenbank in the triple jump with 4.98m. He was also fifth in the speed bounce and sixth in the two lap race in 30.2secs, while Notman picked up a sixth place in the shot with 6.10m.
In the relay events, Mayou, Mahoney, Notman and Greenbank finished third in the circuit relay in 1:30.2mins.
Mahoney and Jack Childs finished in third place in the eight-lap parlauf in 1:57.9mins, with Childs also sixth in the four-lap race in 59.1secs and in the same position in the long jump with a leap of 1.74m.
Thacker, Cresswell, Notman and Mayou took third place in the 4x2 lap relay in 1:48.5mins.
For the under-13s girls, Iona Glenn finished third in the four-lap race in 58.5secs, third in the vertical jump event and ninth in the triple jump with a leap of 4.02m.
Megan Dougal finished fifth in the four-lap race in 60.8secs and eighth in the shot with 4.80m, with Charlotte Weston seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 4.5m.
Chloe Saunders took fourth place in the two-lap race in 26.8secs, with Danielle Cassar sixth in the long jump with a leap of 1.79m. Josie Cassar finished fifth in the long jump with 1.84m and sixth in the vertical jump.
Francesca Hughes took fifth place in the two-lap race in 26.9secs, with Charlotte Weston fifth in the speed bounce.
Jocelin Spencer finished fourth in the six-lap race in 1:49.1mins and sixth in the shot with 5.11m.
In the circuit relay, Charlotte Weston, Lauren Saunders, Chloe Saunders and Dannielle Cassar finished in third place in 1:31.1mins.
Francesa Hughes and Lauren Whitehouse took second place in the eight-lap parlauf in 1:56.0mins.
Megan Dougal, Josie Cassar, Francesca Hughes and Chloe Saunders finished in third place in the 4x2 lap relay in 1:52.1mins.
Tamworth Athletes Jordan Roach and Kane Densley made an early start to the outdoor season when they took part in the City of Stoke open meeting last week and picked up three first places out of a possible four between them.
Roach won his main event, the high jump, with a clearance of 1.68m and followed this up by winning the 80m hurdles in 15.40secs.
Densley won the long jump with a personal best leap of 3.75m and finished in third place in the 75m in a time of 11.80secs.
