Tamworth's young athletes gained their best Young Athletes League Premier Division result of the season when they finished second at Cannock, with Hollie Owen winning the ladies' track athlete of the match award when she won the 300m event in 41.3secs. Weather conditions were far from ideal with rain and the cold making it feel more like a cross country day! In the other events in the under-17 ladies section, Hannah Alcock won her discus with a personal best throw of 14.77m and also won her hammer event with a throw of 13.08m. Charlotte McDonough took first place in her high jump with a clearance of 1.25m and second place in the long jump with a personal best jump of 4.54m. Megan Jacobs won the 3,000m in a time of 12:51.5mins and took third place in the 1,500m in 5:50.0mins. Faye McCabe picked up her usual good points in the throws when she won the discus with a throw of 19.95m, and took second in the javelin with 20.40m and the hammer with a throw of 14.36m. Georgia Lorraine won her 300m in a time of 46.3secs to provide good back up to Owen. Alyson Bird picked up a win in the 3,000m in a time of 16:23.6mins, and third in the 800m in 3:21.9mins and the javelin. Clare Hedderman finished second in the 1,500m in 6:36.5mins and third in the 200m in 31.9secs. Laura Taylor was second in the long jump with a leap of 4.13m, third in the 200m in 28.8secs and fourth in the 100m in 14.4secs. Sophie Cash finished third in the 300m hurdles in 54.5secs, third in the high jump with a jump of 1.35m and fourth in the 80m hurdles in 20.8secs. In the under-13 girls age group, Francesca Hughes won the 75m in a personal best 10.9secs, the 150m in 22.2secs and finished third in the 70m hurdles in another personal best of 14secs. Danielle Norton won her 75m event in 11secs and Josie Cassar was second in the high jump with a clearance of 1.05m, and third in the 150m in 24.4secs and the 70m hurdles in 15secs. Emma Farrell finished second in the 1,200m in 5:8.3mins, and fourth in the shot with a personal best 4.76m and the high jump with a clearance of 1.10m. Hollie McCabe was second in the shot with 6.26m and fourth in the 800m in 4:04.5mins. Leanne Lewis was third in the 1,200m in 4:59.8mins and Megan Dougall was third in the long jump with 3.39m. Beth Hughes was fourth in the 800m in 3:19.4mins with Chloe Saunders in the same position in the long jump with a personal best jump of 3.61m.Lauren and Chloe Saunders also took part in the 4x100m relay. In the under-15 girls section, Hannah Sargeant picked up three second places when she clocked a personal best 2:58mins in the 800m, 15.1secs in the 75m hurdles and cleared 1.25m in the high jump. Rose Williams won her javelin with a throw of 12.52m and was fourth in the 75m hurdles in 13.9secs. Danielle Murczak finished second in the 100m in 14.4secs and the 200m in 28.9secs. Sophie Taylor was second in the 200m in a personal best time of 28.1secs and third in the long jump with a leap of 4.09m. Milly Kellyman finished third in the long jump with a leap of 3.91m and fourth in the 100m in 14.1secs. Elyse Jinks finished second in the 1,500m in 5:43.8mins and fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.15m. Laura Lewis finished second in the 1,500m in 6:18.3mins with Amy Williams fourth in the 800m in 2:54.9mins and third in the discuss with a personal best 9.90m. Sam Storey finished third in the discus with a throw of 12.12m and Jenni Evans was fourth in the javelin with a personal best 12.80m. In the under-15 boys events, Tom Challis caught the eye when he won the 200m in a personal best time of 24.8secs, the 400m in 56.3secs and finished second in the long jump with a leap of 5.23m. Stephen Parkes won the 800m in a personal best time of 2:15.2mins and was third in the 80m hurdles in 16.5secs. Jacob Powell won his 200m in 26.7secs, took second place in the hammer with a personal best throw of 12.70m and third in the 100m, equalling his personal best time of 13.2secs. Jordan Roach won the pole vault with a clearance of 1.80m and finished third in the hammer with a throw of 17.01m. Mathew Wood ran a good race to finish second in the 1,500m in a personal best time of 4:50.1mins and the discus with a personal best throw of 15.49m. Craig Farrell finished third in the pole vault with a personal best clearance of 2.05m and second in his 1,500m in 5:18mins. Adam McGee was second in the 100m and Luke Roughley third in the 400m in 1:00.5mins. Nathan Christian finished third in the 800m in 2:51.1mins, Ted White was third in the discus with a throw of 16.53m and Jacob Hughes was also third in the long jump with a leap of 3.03m. In the under-17 men's events, Nathan Woodward turned in his usual high class performances when he won the 400m by about 80m in 55.2secs, the 100m hurdles in 14.4secs and finished second in the 200m in 24secs. Ashley Smetham won the hammer with a throw of 29.16m and Mark Brooks won the javelin with a throw of over 37m. Simon King won the 3,000m in 9:47.1mins and finished second in the 400m in a personal best 55.4secs. Chris Smith won the javelin with a 32m throw and finished second with 19.63m in the discus. Sam Micklewright won his 3,000m in a personal best time of 10:46mins and was second in the 1,500m in 5:02.7mins. Adam Wotherspoon picked up a first place in the 400m hurdles in 1:16.5mins and finished third in the 100m in 14.3secs. Ben Storey was second in the long jump with a leap of 5.16m and finished fourth in the 100m in a personal best 12.8secs. Nick Crawford was second in the 200m in 24.7secs and third in the 400m in 1:06mins. Stephen Harris finished second in the long jump with a leap of 4.03m and third in the 800m in a time of 2:16.9mins. Steve Deeley was second in the 800m in 2:22.6mins and third in the 1,500m in 4:48.6mins. Marcus Yoxall picked up a couple of second places in the discus and hammer with throws of 16.75m and 12.17m respectively. Joe Saddington and Steve Harris played their part in the team effort by running in the 1,500m steeplechase. In the under-13 boys group, Anthony Parkes won the 800m in a personal best time of 2:40.8mins and the 100m in 15.6secs. Richard Mahoney won the shot with 5.50m and finished third in the 800m in a personal best of 2:37.5mins. Newcomer Jack Childs won his 1,500m in 5:33.7mins and finished third in the long jump with a leap of 2.93m. In the sprints, James Thacker was second in the 100m in 15.1secs and the 200m in 30secs. Brett Cash picked up three third places with 16.7secs in the 75m hurdles, a personal best clearance of 1.20m in the high jump and another personal best of 5.74m in the shot. Kristian Edwards was third in the 1,500m in 5:27.2mins and Jake Notman finished in the same position in the 200m in 33.5secs. Ricky Hawkes won the high jump with a clearance of 1.05m and finished third in the 75m hurdles in 20.3secs with Robert Farrell fourth in the long jump with a leap of 3.11m.

| Men's A Team off to Good Start |

The Men's A team performance was particularly good as several of the team were from the younger age groups and were making their debut in senior competition. Ricky Hallam won the pole vault with a clearance of 3.70m and finished third in the 110m hurdles in 20.2secs and the 400m hurdles in 108.2mins. Stephen Tonks was third in the triple jump with a leap of 12.42m and fourth in the long jump with 5.38m. Daniel Cash was also fourth in the 400m in a personal best time of 51.7secs and the high jump with a clearance of 1.70m. Gavin Showell finished third in his hammer event with a throw of 23.23m, fourth in the pole vault with 2.55m, sixth in the shot with 9m and seventh in the discus with a throw of 25.90m. Alex Berrow coped very well in throwing the heavier implements for the first time, finishing fifth in the discus with a throw of 24.19m, sixth in the hammer with 35.8m and eighth in the shot with 9.23m. Matty James picked up good points from his three events, taking second place in his triple jump with 10.82m, sixth in the 400m hurdles in 1:06.5mins and seventh in the 110m hurdles in 20.6secs. Tom Hardman was fifth in the javelin with a good throw of 44.63m and Tom Adams put up a good performance in his first 5,00m event when he clocked 16:16.8mins for seventh place.Adams also took eighth place in the high jump with a leap of 1.40m. The youngest member of the team, Simon King, produced a good performance to finish fifth in the 2,000m steeplechase in 6:52.4mins, with Howard Bush setting a personal best time of 16:52.3mins for sixth place in the 5,000m. Long serving team stalwarts Nick Spargo and Paul Tasker played their part as usual with Spargo finishing fifth in the 400m in 53.2secs, while Tasker was sixth in the 800m in 2:04.4mins and eighth in the 1,500m in 4:25.5mins. Greg Richards finished fifth in the 100m in 11.7secs and sixth in the 200m in 23.5secs. John Jenkins was fifth in the 1,500m in 4:43.1mins and seventh in the 800m in 2:3.7mins, while Chris Mawbey completed a good team effort by finishing fifth in the 100m in 12secs, and sixth in the 200m in 24secs and the long jump with a leap of 5.73m.

Newly promoted Tamworth AC produced another excellent performance to finish in third in the second National Junior League Premier Division match of the season. Both the men's team and the women's team recording ten personal bests as Tamworth maintained their top three place. Personal bests for the men were set by Tom Burton (110m hurdles), Martin Naunton (2,000m steeplechase), Tom Adams (3,000m), Simon King and Steve Deeley (1,500m), Alex Berrow (hammer), David Levett (shot), Bret Byrd (javelin), Ben Storey (100m and triple jump) and Ben Horsley (400m). In the ladies team, personal bests were recorded by Liz Checkley (400m and pole vault), Faye McCabe (shot and javelin), Charlotte McDonough and Claire Free (triple jump), Meghan Beesley (400m hurdles), Reanne Wood (hammer), Clare Hedderman and Alyson Bird (1,500m). Tom Hardman won the javelin with a throw of 44.88m, while Stephen Tonks was second in the triple jump with a leap of 12.58m and fifth in the 200m in 24.4secs. Nathan Woodward finished second in a close 800m race in 1:56.3mins and fourth in the 110m hurdles in 16.5secs. Naunton was second in the 3,000m in 9:33mins and fourth in the 2,000m steeplechase in 6:47.1mins. Levett finished second in the hammer with a throw of 33.05m, third in the shot with 9.94m and fifth in the discus with a throw of 22.02m. Byrd was second place in the A javelin with a throw of 48.40m, while John Jenkins was second in the 800m in 2:04.7mins, seventh in the 200m in 25.4secs and in the same position in the long jump with a leap of 4.28m. Burton was second place in the 110m hurdles in 16.6secs, fourth in the high jump with 1.60m and fifth in the 400m hurdles in 1:04.2mins. Adams finished third in the 2,000m steeplechase in 6:51.5mins and fourth in the 3,000m in 9:23.9mins. Berrow produced a throw of 45.58m for third place in the hammer, finished fourth in the shot with 10.98m and sixth in the discus with a throw of 26.63m. Daniel Cash was fourth in the 400m in 52.5secs and fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.65m. Horsley clocked 57.9secs for fourth place in the 400m and Storey finished in the same position in the triple jump with a leap of 11.01m and eighth in the 100m in 12.8secs. King finished fifth in the A 1,500m, while Steve Deeley finished in the same position in the B event in 4:38.1mins. Michael Pierpoint was also fifth in the pole vault with a clearance of 2.85m and Charles Parker finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 4.17m. He was also seventh in the 100m in 12.7secs. In the ladies events, Checkley won the pole vault with a clearance of 2m, finished second in the 400m in 1:00.3mins and fifth in the shot with a throw of 6.57m. Beesley won the 400m hurdles in 1:04.7mins with Free second in the triple jump with a leap of 9.40m and sixth in the 100m in 14secs. Hollie Owen returned from injury to finish second in her 400m in 1:00.4mins and Laura Taylor was third in the long jump with a leap close to her personal best of 4.89m.She also finished fifth in the 200m in 28.6secs and sixth in the 100m in 13.7secs. Kathy Snowden finished fourth in the 800m in 2:27.4mins and in the 1,500m steeplechase in 6:37.6mins, and was seventh in the 100m hurdles in 20.8secs. Sophie Cash picked up fourth place in the high jump with a clearance of 1.45m and the hammer with a throw of 7.89m, and finished sixth in the 400m hurdles in 1:20.4mins. Sarah Williams had a busy afternoon and picked up a lot of points for the team. She was third in the long jump with a leap of 4.64m, fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 2.75m, the same position in the high jump with a clearance of 1.30m and sixth in the 3,000m in 15:2.9mins. McDonough was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.05m, Wood was sixth in the hammer with a throw of 21.55m and Georgia Lorraine was eighth in the 200m in 29secs. McCabe finished fifth in the shot with 7.73m, seventh in the discus with a throw of 17.36m and eighth in the javelin with a throw of 22.89m. Claire Perry was fifth in her javelin with a throw of 18.74m and sixth in the discus with 12.80m. Newcomer Rachael Line made a useful debut with fifth place in the 800m in 2:41.3mins, while Bird finished in the same position in the B 1,500m in 6:37.5mins and Hedderman was eighth in the A event in 6:20.7mins.

Tamworth AC's young athletes found the going tough in their opening premier division match of the season in the Premier Division of the Young Athletes League. They finished fourth overall but still managed to produce 27 personal best performances and 21 individual first places. In the under-17 men's age group, personal bests were achieved by Marcus Yoxall (hammer and discus), Ben Horsley (triple jump), Steve Harris (800m), Simon King (1,500m steeplechase) and Joe Saddington (3,000m). Mark Brookes picked up maximum points from his two throwing events, winning his javelin with a throw of 37.15m and recording 8.90m in the shot. Nathan Woodward won the high jump with a clearance of 1.90m, the 400m hurdles in 54.4secs and took second place in the 100m hurdles in 14.5secs. Brett Byrd won the A javelin with a throw of 48.68m and finished second in the shot with 10.23m. Nick Crawford won the triple jump with 10.78m, took third place in his 100m in 12.4secs and the same position in the 200m in a time of 25.2secs. King won the 1,500m steeplechase in 4:53.7mins and Saddington won his 3,000m event in 10:12.2mins.
Yoxall took second place in his discus with a throw of 17.89m and third in the hammer with 20.14m. Steve Deeley finished second in the 3,000m in 10:09mins and Chris Smith was third in the discus with a throw of 20.60m. Horsley picked up two third places in his events, leaping 11.13m in the triple jump and clocking 12.2secs in the 100m. Harris finished fourth in the 800m in 2:16.4mins and the same position in the long jump with of 4.55m. Three newcomers made their debuts in this age group with Adam Wotherspoon finishing in third place in the 200m in 28.2secs and fourth in the long jump with 3.27m, while Paul Kindon was third in the hammer with a throw of 16.03m and Sam Micklewright finished fourth in the 1,500m in 5:6.4mins. In the under-17 ladies' group, Georgia Lorraine picked up a personal best in the 100m. Meghan Beesley won all her three individual events - the 80m hurdles in a time of 11.9secs, the 300m hurdles in 45.1secs and the triple jump with 10.70m. Faye Palmer chalked up a double of first places, winning her 80m hurdles in 15.4secs, the high jump with a clearance of 1.25m and finishing third in the discus with a throw of 14.72m. Also picking up a couple of first places was Sophie Cash, who won the high jump with 1.40m, her 300m hurdles in 53.8secs and finished third in the long jump with 3.78m. Faye McCabe picked up her usual good points in the throwing events, winning the javelin with a throw of 25.69m, taking second place in the shot with 8.18m and third in the discus with a throw of 18.58m. Laura Taylor won the long jump with a jump of 4.45m, took fourth place in the 100m in 13.9secs and the same position in the 200m in 28.8secs. Georgia Lorraine gained a couple of fourth places in the sprints, clocking 14.6secs in the 100m and 29.7secs in the 200m,while Jo Snowden was third in the 3,000m in 51.9secs and fourth in the 800m in 2:55.4mins. Making their debuts in the league were Alyson Bird and Clare Hedderman. Hedderman finished third in the 3,000m in 14:37.5mins while Bird was third in the 3,000m in 14:51.2mins and fourth in the javelin. Personal bests in the under-15 boys' age group went to Matt Wood (1,500m and discus), Tom Challis (400m), Stephen Parkes (1,500m) and Ted White (high jump). Challis produced three good performances while winning the 400m in 55.3secs, the 200m in 25.2secs and finishing second in the long jump with 5.28m. Jacob Powell, in his first match for the club, won the 200m in 26.9secs, finished second in the hammer with a throw of 12.20m and third in the 100m in 13.2secs. Wood won his 1,500m in a time of 4:50.9mins and was fourth in the discus with a throw of 14.40m. Parkes finished second in the 1,500m in a time of 4:49.3secs and third in the shot with 6.17m. Craig Farrell finished second in the 800m in 2:29mins and fourth in the hammer with a throw of 13.66m. White picked up three third places in his events with 13.8secs in the 80m hurdles, 9m in the shot and a clearance of 1.50m in the high jump. David Hudson finished third in the long jump with 3.98m, the same position in the 80m hurdles in 16.5secs and fourth in the 100m in 14.2secs. Jordan Roach was third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.45m and fourth in the javelin with a throw of 21.91m. Adam McGee was third in the 400m in 1:07.3mins, Nathan Christian was fourth in the javelin with a throw of 16.88m, while newcomers Luke Roughley finished third in the 800m in 2:24.7mins and Jacob Hughes threw a distance of 11.83m for fourth place in the discus. Personal bests in the under-15 girls' age group were achieved by Jenni Evans (200m), Rose Williams (75m hurdles), Sophie Taylor (long jump), Hannah Sargeant (high jump) and Elyse Jinks (high Jump). Sargeant was second in the 75m hurdles in 13.7secs and third in the high jump with a jump of 1.35m. Taylor jumped 4.58m for third place in the long jump and finished fourth in the 100m in 14.2secs. Jinks gained two third places with 5:39.6mins in the 1,500m and a clearance of 1.30m in the high jump. Rose Williams was third in the 75m hurdles in 13.3secs, and Rebecca Pate finished in the same position in the 800m in 3:01mins and fourth in the discuss with 7.64m. Nicole King was third in her 1,500m in 5:59.7secs and fourth in the discus with 8.23m. Samantha Storey finished third in the javelin with 8.85m and fourth in the long jump with a leap of 3.57m. Sally Warren finished third in the javelin with a throw of 10.18m and fourth in the shot with 5.33m. Beth Scattergood was fourth in the 100m in 14.9secs and the same position in the shot with 5.21m. Danielle Murczack, Amy Williams and Evans all picked up fourth places in their events. Murczack clocked 29.5secs in the 200m, Williams 2:55.7mins in the 800m and Evans 31.4secs also in the 200m. In the under-13 boys events, Brett Cash gained personal bests in all his events (the 75m hurdles, shot and high jump). He finished third in the 75m hurdles in 15.5secs, fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.20m and fourth in the shot with 5.13m. Anthony Parkes finished third in the 100m in 14.7secs and the same position in the 1,500m in 5:29.2mins. James Thacker was fourth in the A 100m event in 14.5secs and Jake Notman finished in the same position in the 200m in 31.5secs and the long jump with 3.21m. James Scandrett finished third in the shot with 4.51m and Ricky Hawkes was fourth in the 800m in 3:2.1mins and in the high jump with a jump of 1.10m. Newcomers to the team were Richard Mahoney, Jack Williams and Curtis Cresswell. Mahoney finished third in the 800m in 2:40.1mins, Williams finished in the same position in the 75m hurdles in 18.0secs and fourth in the long jump with a jump of 3.19m, while Creswell was fourth in the 200m in 31.7secs. Gaining personal bests in the under-13 girls' age group were Josie Cassar (70m hurdles and high jump), Lauren Saunders (75m), Francesca Hughes (70m hurdles), Chloe Saunders (long jump), Megan Dougall (long jump) and Emma Farrell (shot). Cassar took second place in her 70m hurdles in 14.3secs and fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.10m. Hughes finished in third place in the 70m hurdles in 14.2secs and fourth in the 75m in 11.2secs. Lauren Saunders took fourth place in the 75m in 11.5secs with twin sister Chloe in the same position in the long jump with a jump of 3.60m. Danielle Norton finished in fourth place in the 150m in 22.7secs and in the same position in the shot with 4.70m, while Lauren Whitehouse was fourth in the 150m in 23.8secs and in the 800m in 3:32.5mins. Farrell took third place in the shot with 4.57m and Dougall third in the long jump with a jump of 3.45m. Newcomers were Beth Hughes, who finished fourth in the 1,200m in 5:12.4mins, Charlotte Weston was third in the high jump with 1.05m and Abie Malin was fourth in the 800m in 3:11.4mins. At the end of the meeting, awards were made to Nathan Woodward (male track athlete of the match) and Meghan Beesley (female field athlete of the match).
