Title Joy For Ace Athletic Duo Monday, July 12 2004
Two Tamworth AC athletes retained national titles in June.
Sprinter Kirk Allen bounced back from the first injury setback of his career in style by retaining the English 400m title for a fourth successive year.
And race walker Mark Williams regained his Welsh National Race Walking title to make it a superb double for Tamworth AC.
Allen's successful outing at the National Athletics Championships for People with Learning Disability was his first appearance on the track since suffering a hamstring stain in May.
The 21-year-old was competing in the British Open Championships at the time when he was forced to pull up in the 100m after tweaking his hamstring.
That put him out of action for three weeks but, after undergoing fitness work at Peaks Leisure Centre, Allen returned in time for last weekend's prestigious event at Cannock Sport Stadium and took the gold medal in 55.5secs.
The Tamworth AC runner also claimed a 200m silver medal in 24.6secs to complete a very successful return to the track.
"We are all really proud of him," said Kirk's mother Angie. "To win the 400m title for four years running is an amazing achievement."
Allen will be looking to claim more medals next month when he travels to Sweden to represent his country in the INAS Global Games - the equivalent of the Paralympics for athletes with learning disabilities.
He has been selected for the 100m, 200m and 400m but it is currently not keen on running in the shorter sprint event following his injury last month.
Allen's travel and accommodation costs have been met for the Swedish trip but his mother is now busy raising funds for next year's Global Games - which are being held in Australia.
Anyone who can help fund Kirk Allen's thriving athletics career is asked to call Angie Allen on 01827 701916.

Meanwhile, Williams claimed the Welsh 3km title in wet, blustery conditions at Colwyn Bay.
Williams took the race on from the start and won in a season's best time of 13:17.02mins.
Williams performance in Wales came on the back of another great performance the previous day in the Alan Flear Open meeting in Coventry.
In a top class field, Williams finished second to World Cup walker and Olympic hope Andi Drake but he did claim the scalps of Great Britain internationals Luke Finch of Leicester and Daryl Stone from Steyning, recording 13:17.77mins.
As a result, Williams has been called up to the Midlands squad for the Inter-Area match at Loughborough next month.
Sheila Owen was also in medal winning form at the Alan Flear Open, taking bronze in the women's 3km in a time of 17.2mins.
