Premier Division Survival Hopes Are Still Alive Wednesday, July 27 2005
 
 
Tamworth AC kept their hopes alive of retaining their Premier Division status for next season when they picked up valuable league points with an excellent second place in the latest round of the National Young Athletes League, writes Mick Sanderson.
   Personal bests were recorded by Milly Kellyman (long jump and 75m), Alex Berrow (hammer and shot), Tom Burton (400m hurdles), Ben Horsley (200m), Nick Crawford (triple jump), Steve Harris (800m), Amy Williams (300m), Josie Cassar (high jump), Steve Deeley (3000m), Joe Saddington (3000m), Nathan Jones-Faulkes (javelin), Ted White (75m hurdles), Elyse Jinks (1500m), Sally Warren (high jump), Laura Fell (long jump), Ben Storey (100m) and Faye McCabe (javelin).
   Sophie Taylor picked up three first places when she won the long jump with 4.26m, the 75m in 11.2secs and the 150m in 21.9secs.
   Hollie Owen achieved her usual double when she won the 200m in 26.7secs and the 300m in 42.6secs.
   Adam McGee also picked up a couple of first places when he won the 800m in 2:43.5mins, the 100m in 14.3secs and was fourth in the long jump with 4.08m.
   Jones-Faulkes also picked up his usual double when he won the javelin with a throw of 44.71m and the discus with 25.49m.
   Berrow, as usual, produced his usual top performances in the throwing events. He won the hammer with 50.22m and was second in both the shot with a putt of 13.11m and the discus with a throw of 26.82m.
   Kellyman picked up a couple of first places when she won the 75m in 10.8secs, the long jump with 4.26m and took second in the 150m in 21.8secs.Burton won the 400m hurdles in 64.3secs and Juan Padmore gained his usual win in the long jump with 6.05m.James Thacker won the 100m in 14.8secs and was third in the 200m in 30.2secs.
   Steve Deeley won the 3,000m in 10:02.7mins and Dan Challis won the pole vault with a clearance of 2.20m.Craig Farrell won his 800m in 2:26.1mins and was third in the 80m hurdles in 16.2secs.Joe Saddington won his 3,000m in 11:29.4mins and newcomer Tom Free won the high jump with 1.30m.
   Ashley Smetham won the hammer with a 28.49m throw and took second place in the B 1,500m steeplechase in 7:38.0mins.
   Meghan Jacobs won the 3,000m in 12:21.5mins and was third in the 1,500m in 5:40.3mins.
   Laura Taylor won the long jump with 4.59m and was third in the 100m in 13.9secs, while Emma Farrell won the 800m in 3:03.2mins.
   McCabe was second in the javelin with 23.95m and newcomer Sophie Ellis was runner-up in the shot with 4.59m.
   Tom Challis won the 80m hurdles in 14.5secs and finished fourth in the 200m in 25.6secs. Reanne Wood was second in the discus with a throw of 15.46m and Marianne Pritchard finished in the same position in the 300m hurdles in 58.8secs.
   Claire Free was second in the 200m in 29secs and third in the 100m in 13.9secs.
   Simon King was second in the 1,500m steeplechase in 5:06.2mins and third in the 1,500m in 4:41.1mins and the 200m in 26secs.Steve Harris finished second in the 800m in 2:20.3mins and third in the hammer with 12.04m.
   Leanne Lewis was second in the 70m hurdles in 16.5secs and third in the 1,200m in 4:57mins.
   Ted White finished second in the 75m hurdles in 13.9secs and was third in the high jump with 1.35m.
   Faye Palmer took second place in the 80m hurdles in 16.6secs and third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.40m.
   Robert Farrell finished in second place in the 75m hurdles in 17.3secs, third in the 1,500m in 5:49.1 mins and fourth in the long jump with a jump of 3.71m.
   Elyse Jinks picked up a second place in the 75m hurdles in 21.3secs and was fourth in the 1,500m in 5:42.5mins.Hannah Alton finished second in the 100m in 14.9secs and third in the long jump with 3.53m.
   Nick Crawford set a new personal best in the triple jump of 10.96m and finished fourth in the 200m in 25.2secs.
   Jenna Passey was third in the 1,500m in 6:24.2mins and Matty Webb finished in the same position in his race in 5:57.1mins.
   Georgia Lorraine was also third in the 300m in 47.2secs and fourth in the 200m in 29.3secs. Hannah Sargeant was third in the 75m hurdles in 14.3secs and fourth in the 200m in 31.9secs.
  Ben Horsley was third in the 100m and 200m in times of 12.9secs and 25.7secs respectively.Sophie Kelly finished third in the 800m in 2:59.4mins and Nathan Christian finished in the same position in the 800m in 2:37.6mins.
   Laura Lewis was third in the 800m in 3:02.8mins and Nicole King was fourth in the 1,200m in 4:50.6mins. Sophie Cash picked up three third places with 51.1secs in the 300m hurdles, 13.5secs in the 80m hurdles and a clearance of 1.45m in the high jump.
   Charlotte Elvins was second in the 300m in 46.3secs and third in the 800m.
Josie Cassar gained a couple of third places with 15.8secs in the 70m hurdles and 1.05m in the high jump.Amy Williams was third in the 300m in 49.6secs and fourth in the 800m in 2:56.3mins.
   Chris Smith finished fourth in the hammer with a throw of 15.68m and took the same position in the discus with 18.16m.
   Fell was third in the long jump with 3.85m and fourth in the discus with 18.88m. Kerry Hestletine picked up a couple of third places with 14.5secs in the 100m and 4.15m in the long jump.
   Jordan Roach finished fourth in the 200m in 36.3secs and Tom Adams finished in the same position in the 400m in 1:00.8mins.Sally Warren was also fourth in both the shot with 5.11m and the high jump with a clearance of 1.10m.
    Also picking up fourth places were Ben Storey, Rebecca Pates and Ryan Ellis.
Storey clocked 13.3secs in the 100m, Pates finished the 1,500m in 6:32.7mins and Ryan recorded 14.8secs in the 100m.Matty Webb finished third in the 1,500m in 5:57.1mins.

Several of Tamworth AC's younger athletes took the opportunity to show their potential at last weekend's Heart of England League match.
  In the under-13 boys, personal bests were recorded by James Thatcher (100m and 200m), Jordan Roach (800m), Ted White (80m hurdles), Jake Notman (long jump), Adam McGee (200m) and Robert Farrell (1,500m).
  White won the 80m hurdles in 14secs, the high jump with a clearance of 1.35m and took second place in the shot with a putt of 8.05m.Thatcher was third place in the 100m in 14.1secs, the same position in the 200m in a time of 29.6secs and seventh in the javelin.
   Notman was fourth the 100m in 14.6secs and seventh in the long jump with 3.65m.Bret Cash was sixth in the 80m hurdles in 21.8secs and eighth in the long jump with 3.08m.
   McGee was fourth in the 200m in 29.3secs and seventh in the 800m in 2:56mins.
Farrell was sixth place in the shot with a putt of 3.62m, eighth in the javelin with a throw of 8.77m and the same position in the 1,500m in 5:27.2mins. Roach was seventh in the 800m in 3:07.5mins.

In the under-13s girls events, personal bests went to Sophie Taylor (long jump and 200m), Milly Kellyman (long jump), Emma Farrell (800m and shot) and Josie Cassar (70m hurdles).
   Kellyman won her long jump with 4.03m and the 200m in 29secs.Taylor won the A long jump with 4.37m and was fourth in the 200m in 29.4secs.Cassar was fifth in the 70m hurdles in 15.3secs and seventh in the 100m in 16.2secs.
   Kerry Hestletine was fourth in the 100m in 14.2secs, while Nicole King finished just outside the medal places in the 1,500m in 6:15.7mins.Leanne Lewis was third in the 1,500m in 6:18.5mins and fifth in the 70m hurdles in 16.7secs.
   Emma Farrell was fifth in the javelin with a throw of 11.37m and seventh in the shot with a putt of 4.34m.Sally Warren was fifth in the javelin with a throw of 11.22m, fifth in the shot with 5.72m and seventh in the high jump with a clearance of 1.05m.
   In the 800m A event, Sophie Kelly was seventh in 2:56.9mins and Farrell was third in the B 800m in 2:59.4mins.
   In the under-11 boys, personal bests were recorded by Sean Pates and Oliver Wood in the 75m.Wood took seventh place in the long jump with 3.06m, eighth in the 75m in 12.7secs and eighth in the 600m in 2:23mins.Pates finished seventh in the 75m in 12.8secs, while Stewart Gibson was fourth in the non-scoring 75m in 12.6secs and seventh in the long jump with 3.08m.

In the under-11 events, personal bests went to Lauren Whitehouse (75m and 600m), Francesca Hughes (75m and 600m), Hannah Owen (600m) and Danielle Cassar (75m).
  Whitehouse won her 75m race in 11.2secs and her non-scoring 600m race in 2:10mins.Hughes took second place in the 75m in 10.9secs and third in the 600m in 2:10.3mins.Owen was seventh in the 600m in 2:08.9mins with Cassar fourth in the non-scoring 75m event in 12.4secs.
   Hollie McCabe was fifth place in the A long jump with 3.11m and team mate Megan Dougall was fourth in the B long jump with 2.81m,

In the under-15 boys events, personal bests were recorded by Ben Horsley (100m and 200m), Steven Harris 800m, Craig Farrell (80m hurdles), Robert Freeth (400m) and Matty Wood (1,500m).Brooks won the javelin with a throw of 37m and took second place in the high jump with 1.5m.Chris Smith won his javelin with a throw of 32.46m and took fourth place in the shot with a putt of 8.18m.
   Freeth finished in third place in the 400m with a time of 58.4secs and second in the 200m in 26.1secs.Farrell was third in the long jump with 4.53m and fifth in the 80m hurdles in 15.3secs.
   Newcomer Tom Adams picked up a good third place in the 400m in 59.2secs and Steve Deeley was third in the 80m hurdles in a time of 16.4secs.Ben Horsley finished in fifth place in the 100m in 12.5secs, fifth in the 200m in 25.7secs and another fifth in the long jump with 4.67m.
   Joe Saddington was second in the 1,500m in 5:04.8mins and Matty Webb was third in the 800m in 2:41.9mins.Steven Harris finished fourth in the shot with 7.46m and fifth in the 800m in 2:22.8mins.David Hudson was sixth in the 100m in 13.9secs and Matty Wood was fifth in the 1,500m in 5:01.6secs.

Personal bests in the under-15 girls age group were recorded by Laura Taylor (800m), Hannah Alcock (100m), Danielle Murezak (200m ) and Rosie Williams (long jump).
   Murezak clocked 28.5secs for second place in the 200m, while Faye McCabe was also second in the javelin with 22.67m and third in the shot with a putt of 8.07m.
Newcomer Bethany Scattergood gained a good fifth place in a time of 14.4secs in the 100m, while Alcock was sixth in the javelin with a throw of 1`1.26m and eighth in the 100m in 14.1secs.
   Georgia Lorraine was fifth in the 200m in 28.9secs with Elyse Jinks in the same position in the 1,500m in a time of 5:52mins.Taylor was sixth in the 800m in 2:45.9mins and in the high jump with a clearance of 1.25m.
   Hannah Sergeant was sixth in the 75m hurdles in 13.7secs and seventh in the shot with a putt of 4.8m.Laura Lewis was fifth in the 1,500m in 6:32.7mins and sixth in the 75m hurdles in 17.6secs.
   Rebecca Pates finished fourth in the 800m in 2:55.7mins, while Williams was eighth in the A long jump with 4.08m. Sophie Wetherington was sixth in the B long jump with 3.67m.

In the under-17 men's age group, Tom Burton gained personal bests in all his three events, the 100m, 100m hurdles and high jump.Ashley Smethem (200m and 400m), Nathan Woodward (200m), Alex Berrow (shot), David Goodwin (shot) and Nathan Jones-Faulkes (javelin) also recorded new best figures.
   Burton won the 100m hurdles in14.6secs, was sixth in the 100m in 12.3secs and seventh in the high jump with 1.6m.
Jones-Faulkes won the javelin with a throw of 44.06m and Juan Padmore won the long jump with a 6.21m leap.Berrow won the shot with a putt of 12.55m, while Goodwin won the B shot with a putt of 9.55m and finished second in the javelin with a throw of 25.55m.
   Simon King finished third in the 800m in 2:15.6mins and the same position in the 1,500m in a time of 4:34.6mins.
   Woodward was second in the 100m hurdles in 14.5secs and fourth in the 200m in 23.9secs.Nick Crawford was fourth in the 100m in 12.6secs and fifth in the long jump with 4.89m.Smetham was fourth in the 1,500m in 6:47.6mins, seventh in the 200m in 33.3secs and eighth in the 400m in 1:19.5secs.

In the women's events, Sarah Williams and Megan Beesley both recorded personal bests in the javelin event.Amy Frith won the 800m in 2:22mins and Liz Checkley won the 400m in 1:01.4mins.
   Beesley won the 200m in 25.7secs and took second place in the javelin with a throw of 22.58m.
   Hollie Owen won her 200m in 26.3secs and Justine Passey clocked 13.3secs in the 100m.
   Sophie Cash finished second in the high jump with 1.5m, the same position in the 100m in 13.5secs and fourth in the 80m hurdles in 13.6secs.
   Kat Snowden finished fifth in the A 1,500m in 5:27.8mins and Jenna Passey was third in the B event in 6:23mins.
   Sara Benson was second in the long jump with 4.65m, while Sam Day was fourth in the shot with a putt of 7.96m and Rebecca Hallam was third in the 400m in 1:06.3mins.
   Faye Palmer finished second in the 80m hurdles in 16secs and seventh in the shot with a putt of 4.31m.
   Sarah Williams was second in the long jump with 4.45m, the same position in the javelin with a throw of 15.95m and third in the 800m in 3:01.7secs.
