NJL - Cleckheaton - Lander Top Athlete Award Again Sunday, September 12 2004
The Tamworth National Junior League Ladies team travelled to Cleckheaton in Yorkshire for the Northern Promotion match between the Divisional Champions from the Midlands, Scotland, Wales and the North of England, and finished in sixth place overall.
Star of the meeting was Tamworth's Jenna Lander who, for the third year in succession, won the athlete of the meeting award when, in atrocious weather conditions, she produced a fine throw of 44.94m to win the hammer competition. Jenna also took seventh place in the discus with a throw of 24.20m and the same position in the shot with 8.35m.
Another athlete to produce high level performances was sprinter Justine Passey who took second place in the 100m in 12.9secs and the same position in the 200m in a time of 26.8secs.
Sarah Williams took second place in the pole vault with a clearance of 2.55m, sixth in the long jump with a leap of 4.19m and the same position in the triple jump with 9.83m.
Lara Hooper won the B pole vault with a clearance of 2.15m, took fifth place in the triple jump with 9.07m, fifth in the 1,500m in 6:18.4mins and sixth in the long jump with a leap of 3.58m on a very busy afternoon for her.
Gemma Wheelhouse produced a throw of 23.81m in the hammer to gain second place in the B competition. Gemma also took fifth place in the shot with 7.79m, fifth in the discus with a throw of 17.59m and sixth in the javelin with 17.19m.
Claire Perry set a new personal best in the javelin with a throw of 22.93m, giving her fifth place in the A competition.
Rebecca Hallam took third place in the B 400m hurdles in 1:23.9mins and seventh in the 100m in 14.8secs.
Amy Frith took third place in the 400m in 1:01.3mins and fifth in the high jump with a superb clearance of 1.35m.
Katherine Snowden finished in fourth place in the 400m hurdles in 1:19.8mins and fifth in the 100m hurdles in 21.3secs.
Abi Aubrey was fourth in the B 800m in 2:42mins and fifth in the A 1,500m in 5:48mins.
Leah Moores took fifth place in the A 800m event in a time of 2:30.8mins and the same position in the 400m in 1:07.6mins.

RAF Cosford Meeting Sunday, September 12 2004
Despite having their team reduced through holidays, Tamworth AC put in some excellent performances against a National team from the Air Training Corp, the Shropshire County team and Dudley and Stourbridge club to finish in second place overall in the under-17 and under-20 men's age groups at RAF Cosford.
Athletes chalking up personal bests in this match were David Lines (100m, 400m and long jump), Simon King (400m and 1,500m), Nathan Jones Faulkes (shot), Sophie Cash (200m), Claire Perry (javelin), Danielle Webb (javelin), Alex Berrow (discus), David Levett (shot), Kathy Snowden (400m), Tom Challis (200m), Adam Bache (800m) and Michael Pierpoint (800m).
Meghan Beesley picked up a couple of first places when she won the 200m in 26.4secs, the long jump with a jump of 5.27m and took third place in the high jump with a clearance of 1.45m.
Sophie Cash won her first shot competition of the season with 8m, took second place in the high jump with 1.50m and finished fifth in the 200m in 28.9secs.
Simon King gained a comfortable win in the 1,500m in 4:35.9mins and took third place in the 400m in 59.8secs.
Tom Hardman had his usual win in the javelin with a throw of 42.41m and Stephen Tonks won his 1,500m in 4:37.7secs and took third place in the 800m in 2:09.3mins.
Katherine Snowden gained a good win in the 800m in 2:35.7mins and finished in third place in the 400m in a time of 1:04.0mins.
Nathan Jones-Faulks picked up three good second places in his throwing events with throws of 35.84m in the javelin, 25.50m in the discus and 8.74m in the shot.
Alex Berrow and David Levett also picked up good points in the throwing events.Alex took third place in the discuss with 29.13m and second in the shot with 11.06m.
David was third in the shot with 10.15m, fourth in the discus with a throw of 24.59m and sixth in the javelin with 14.52m.
David Lines showed good form, taking third place in the 100m in 11.9secs, fourth in the 200m in 24.6secs, fourth in the long jump with a jump of 5.53m and fourth in the 400m in 53.8secs, with Neil Rudd, making a comeback after injury, taking third place in the 400m in 53.6secs.
Chris Mawbey took second place in the 100m in 11.5secs, another second in the 200m in 23.5secs, third in the long jump with a leap of 5.76m and fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.55m.
John Jenkins finished in second place in the 800m in 2:06.7mins, fourth in the 1,500m in 4:53.7mins and fourth in the javelin.
Adam Bache took second place in the 1,500m in 4:49.9mins and third in the 800m in 2:19.5mins.
Daniel Challis picked up two useful third places in the sprint events, clocking 12.3secs in the 100m and 24.9secs in the 200m.
Tom Challis and David Hudson moved up to a higher age group and both did well.Tom finished third in the long jump with a jump of 4.58m and sixth in the 200m in 26.6secs with David sixth in the 100m in 14.0secs.
Daniel Cash took fourth place in the high jump with a clearance of 1.65m, fifth in the 200m in 24.7secs and fifth in the long jump with a jump of 5.21m.
Claire Perry finished in fourth place in the javelin with a throw of 21.83m and fourth in the shot with 6.66m, Jenna Passey finishing in fifth place in the 800m in a time of 3:00.1mins.
Danielle Webb took fourth place in the 800m in 2:50.4mins and fifth in the javelin with a throw of 15.10m.
Michael Pierpoint was fourth in the 800m in 2:24.3mins, fifth in the 1,500m in 5:25.1mins and seventh in the 200m in 27.7secs.
Rebecca Hallam gained a lot of useful points, taking sixth place in the 800m in 2:57mins, another sixth in the javelin with a throw of 13.08m, seventh in the 200m in 30.7secs and eighth in the 400m in 1:08.0mins.
Lara Hooper also gained good points for the ladies, finishing in fifth place in the 1,500m in 6:25.7mins, seventh in the long jump with a leap of 4.13m and eighth in the 200m in 32secs.
