Young Athletes Finish Season on a High Note Friday, September 15 2006
Tamworth AC travelled to Tipton for the final Heart of England League match of the season.

The youngest members of the team producing some excellent end of the season form.

Personal bests were recorded by Robert Stroud (600m and long jump), Oliver Wood (600m), Kane Densley (600m), Sam McDonald (75m), Eloise Redfern (long jump), Jessica Hirst (600m), Samantha Lawton (600m), Jasmine Oliver (600m), Jack Childs (75m hurdles), Josie Cassar (shot), Lauren Saunders (100m), Liam Wheeler (javelin), Stephen Parkes (javelin), Jordan Roach (80m hurdles), Laura Lewis (long jump), Steven Harris (400m), Nick Crawford (400m) and Chris Smith (shot).

In the under-11 boy's events, Stroud won the 600m in 1:54.5mins and the long jump with a distance of 3.71m.

Oliver Wood also picked up a double when he won the 600m in 2:00.4mins and the long jump with a distance of 3.53m. He also finished third in the 75m in 12secs.

Densley won the 75m in 12.6secs and clocked 2:02.5mins for victory the 600m.

Sam McDonald finished second in the 75m in 11.3secs, while Ryan Christian clocked 14.5secs in the 75m and Harrison Mayou recorded a time of 2:21.4mins in the 600m.

In the under-11 girl's age group, Redfern won the long jump with a distance of 3.99m and finished second in the 600m in 1:58.9mins.

Chloe Williams won her long jump with a leap of 3.06m and finished fifth in the 75m in 12.9secs.

There were second place finishes for Jessica Hirst in the 600m in 2:10.5mins, and Samantha Lawton in the 75m in 12.7secs and the 600m in 2:14.3mins.

Jasmine Oliver finished third in the 75m in 12.5secs and recorded a time of 2:12.8mins in the 600m, while Bethan Roach was sixth in the 75m in 16.1secs.

In the under-13 boy's age group, Richard Mahoney won his 1,500m in 5:21.5mins and recorded 4.64m in the shot.

Jack Childs finished second in his 800m in 2:42.4mins, was fourth in the 75m hurdles in 17.6secs and seventh in the shot with 5.18m.

Kristian Edwards was third in the 1,500m in 5:17.8mins and eighth in the javelin.

In the sprints, James Thacker was fourth in the 200m in 30.4secs and fifth in the 100m in 14.8secs.

Anthony Parkes finished fourth in the 800m in 2:40.2mins and fifth in the 200m in 32.2secs.

Charlie Mayou was fourth in the 75m hurdles in 16.2secs, sixth in the 100m in 16.1secs and seventh in the long jump with a leap of 3.25m.

Brett Cash was seventh in the high jump with a clearance of 1.20m and eighth in the javelin with a throw of 10.88m.

In the under-13 girl's events, Lauren Saunders was second in the 100m in 14.8secs, while Francesca Hughes was third in the 200m in 30.2secs, fifth in the 70m hurdles in 13.6secs and the same position in the shot with 5.59secs.

Danielle Cassar finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 3.14m with Josie Cassar in fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.05m, the same position in the shot with 5.10m and sixth in the 70m hurdles in 16.4secs.

Louisa Faccino-Stack was fifth in the 100m with Lauren Whitehouse in the same position in the 200m in 33.5secs.

Leanne Lewis finished seventh in the 800m in 3:06.5mins, while Chloe Saunders finished in the same position in the long jump with a distance of 3.25m.

Inthe under-15 boy's group, Stephen Parkes won the 400m in 58.2secs, finished third in the 800m in 2:13.2mins and fourth in the javelin with a throw of 23.18m.

Jordan Roach won the high jump with a clearance of 1.70m, took third place in the 80m hurdles in 15secs and the same position in the 1,500m in 6:30.5mins.

Tom Challis was second in the 400m in 55.5secs, fourth in the 200m in 25.4secs and fifth in the shot with 9.72m.

Matty Wood won the 1,500m in 4:53.9mins and Luke Roughley won the 800m in 2:16.1mins.

Liam Wheeler finished third in the javelin with a throw of 34.68m, fourth in the shot with 7.70m and seventh in the long jump with a jump of 3.67m.

Adam McGee was sixth in the 200m in 30.5secs, and picked up eighth place finishes in the 100m in 14.4secs and the long jump with 3.83m.

In the under-15 girl's events, Sophie Taylor was second in the 100m in 14.1secs and fifth in the 200m in 28.9secs, with Milly Kellyman second in the 100m in 13.9secs and sixth in the shot with 6m.

Laura Lewis was second in the 1,500m in 5:59.6mins and sixth in the long jump with 3.32m.

Hannah Sargeant finished third in the 75m hurdles in 13.2secs, and the high jump with 1.35m, and finished fifth in the shot with 5.99m.

Samantha Storey was third in the javelin with a throw of 10.35m, seventh in the long jump with a distance of 3.97m and fifth in the 75m hurdles.

Also finishing fifth was Elyse Jinks in the 1,500m in a time of 5:50.5mins.

Bethany Scattergood was fourth in the 200m in 30secs and seventh in the javelin with a throw of 10.74m.

In the under-17 men's events, Chris Smith won the javelin with 36.82m, finished second in the long jump with a distance of 4.69m and was third in the shot with 8.38m.

Nick Crawford was fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.40m, fifth in the 400m in a time of 55.3secs and the same position in the long jump with a distance of 5.20m.

Steven Harris was fourth e in the javelin with a throw of 20.49m, fifth in the 800m in 2:14.9mins and fifth in the 400m in 59.6secs.

Chris Boden finished second in the 800m in 2:16.7mins, seventh in the 100m in 13.5secs and the same position in the 200m in 27.4secs.

In the women's group (including under-17s) Laura Taylor was second in the 100m in 13.8secs, third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.35m and third in the long jump with 4.78m.

Liz Checkley finished second in the 200m in a time of 28.4secs, while Jade Lepla was fifth in the 400m in 1:05.8mins.

Georgia Lorraine was second in the 400m in 1:05.5mins and fourth in the 200m in 29.5secs.

Hannah Alcock finished fifth in the shot with 6.23m and sixth in the javelin with a throw of 12.47m.

Sarah Williams was fourth in the long jump with a distance of 4.01m, eighth in the shot with 6.28m and the same position in the javelin with a throw of 13.45m.

Over 700 athletes took part in a high quality Tamworth Games at the town stadium on Bank Holiday Monday.

The host club more than held its own with athletes winning 28 medals.

Tom Challis returned from injury to win the under-15 boys' 200m in 24.63secs and was second in the 300m in a club record time of 39.07secs.

Meghan Beesley picked up a couple of golds when she won the under-17 women's 300m in another club record of 39.74secs and won the long jump with a distance of 5.51m.

Mark Williams won the 2,000m walk in 8:24.42mins and Tom Adams was first in the under-20 men's 1,500m in a time of 4:15.57mins.

Chalking up first places in the throwing events were Bret Byrd, Alex Berrow and Brian Sumner.

Byrd also won the under-17 men's javelin with a personal best throw of 55.79m and took third place in the shot with a personal best of 11.12m.

Berrow won the under-20 men's hammer with a throw of 51.26m and was second in the shot with 11.56m, while Sumner won his hammer event with a throw of 39.11m.

Sprinter Danielle Norton picked up a couple of medals in the under-13 girl's events when she finished second in the 75m in a personal best time of 10.35secs and third in the 150m in a time of 20.65secs after setting another personal best of 20.55secs in the heats.

Stephen Parkes was second in the 1,200m in 3:37.2mins and also finished fourth in the 800m final.

Simon King was second in the under-17 men's 800m in 4:18.4mins and Dan Cash claimed another silver in the under-20 men's 400m in 52.89secs.

Also picking up silver medals were Jordan Roach in the under-15 boys' high jump and Mike Pierpoint in the pole vault, while javelin coach Phil Owen was second with a throw of 34.27m in the senior men's javelin.

Bronze medals were claimed by Richard Mahoney in the under-13 boys' 1,200m, Liz Checkley in the under-20 women's 400m, Anthony Parkes in the under-13 boys' 600m, Eloise Redfern in the under-11 girls 600m and long jump, Robert Stroud in the under-11 boys' 600m, Steven Harris in the under-13 boys' 800m, Laura Taylor in the under-17 women's long jump, Nick Lane in the shot with 8.19m and Lizzie Moules in the under-20 women's long jump.

Fourth places went to Lizzie Moules (100m), Liz Checkley (200m), Eloise Redfern (75m), Chris Boden (800m), Matt Hargreaves (800m), Stephen Parkes (800m), and Craig Farrell (pole vault). In fifth places in their finals, were Elyse Jinks (1,200m), Nigel Fisher (1,500m), and Jordan Roach (pole vault).

Sixth places in the finals went to Alyiah Reid (75m and 150m), Sophie Taylor (200m), Ben Horsley (300m), Kane Densley (600m), Robert Stroud (75m), Sariah Maughan (800m) and Eloise Redfern (long jump).

The club would like to thank the deputy mayor of Tamworth, Cllr Mick Oates and his wife, Cllr Mary Oates, Dr Alan Harrison, chief executive of England Athletics and his wife, Mrs J Harrison, and Tracey Martin representing Pickerings Solicitors for presenting the awards.

Also, all the 144 volunteer officials and helpers and all the athletes who took part, for their hard work in contributing to a very successful day.
